My Top Tips for People with Invisalign

Hey guys! I can’t believe I’ve been wearing my Invisalign trays for 7 months now! Time is flying but I’m seeing great movement in my teeth! I’ve learned to look after my trays better each month because it’s something I never really read about before getting Invisalign so it was definitely a learning process for me. In this post I wanted to share my top tips I picked up along the way and hopefully help some of you starting your treatment soon (or if you’ve already started.)

Tip #1

Carry a little make-up bag with all that you may need to clean your teeth and the trays. In my make up bag I have a small toothbrush for brushing my own teeth and separate soft one for cleaning the trays, a small toothpaste, a small mouthwash, tray case, dental floss and chewies.

Tip #2

Invest in retainer cleaning tablets. I bought Retainer Brite and there are 36 tablets in a box for less than 10 euro. You put one tablet in warm water and pop your trays in it. When the water turns from blue to clear that indicates that the trays are clean. And trust me they come out like new! I don’t do this everyday because my trays are generally clean for the first 5 days with my own cleaning, but I do it towards the end of the week when they get stained from drinks etc. or before a big show. One of the models told me she uses Milton to clean them, I’d imagine you just need a tiny drop in a glass of water to soak them and rinse well after.

Tip #3

Never clean your braces under hot running water because they might lose shape, after all that’s how they make them by softening a sheet of plastic with heat and then suctioning it down over a model.

Tip #4

invisalign chewies

Back to chewies. I was very bad at the start for not using them (very silly move). Make sure you use chewies often to close any air gaps or just to tighten the trays onto your teeth better, it will help shorten the duration of your treatment. But if you forget or misplace your chewies then roll a piece of tissue into a cylinder shape and bite onto that a couple of times; it’s better than not doing it you know!

Tip #5

Bring your tray case with you everywhere! I’ve lost count of the amount of times I’ve nearly thrown my trays out by accident because I had them wrapped in a tissue! (Ooops) There was one time me and mum had to go through all the bins in the house; not a very pleasant job but it turned out I had just left them on my bed but couldn’t see them (either they’re that invisible or I need to get my eyes checked again haha)

Tip #6

Take them out while drinking (cool) tea or iced coffee. These drinks will stain your teeth but at least not your trays 😛 (you don’t want the double yellow effect) Great for finally getting the 2L of water into ya (aaaaah).
